The New York Writers Coalition says it’s series of free Fort Greene Park Summer Youth Workshops, which culminate with readings at the Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival, are in jeopardy thanks to cuts in National Endowment for the Arts funding.

The coalition, which started the festival in Fort Greene Park in 2005, usually offers 40 free seats in the six-week workshops to 7 to 18 year olds. At a price of $150 per student, the loss in funding means the coalition has to raise $6,000 by the start of the summer if it hopes to continue the program.

If you want to ensure you’ll see young writers next to professional ones at this summer’s literary festival on August 24,  head over to the coalition’s website to make a donation and sponsor a young writer.
